OUTREACH MINISTER POSITION - Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Mercy and Queen of Martyrs, Dayton, OH (Posted 8/23/10)

This part-time (15-18 hours/week) position involves working with mentally-disabled residents of 12 group boarding homes located around three Dayton churches:  Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Mercy and Queen of Martyrs. 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. SPIRITUAL: The Outreach Minister offers Prayer Services and spiritual counseling to residents in their group homes, intervening for them when necessary and provides them with meaningful rituals.  It is a ministry of presence where deep pain sharing becomes the center of worship. 

  1. RECREATIONAL: This person coordinate DUSTIN HOUSE, a weekly activity and other seasonal activities, like the summer picnic, by finding transporters, planning programs, collaborating with people and organizations for the provision of food, clothing, etc.

  1. VOLUNTEER COORDINATION: The Outreach Minister is responsible for recruiting, training and debriefing volunteers and for matching their talents with the diverse needs of the programs.

  1. OTHER TASKS: Writing grants and articles for the Parish Bulletin and Newsletter, helping with fundraising, giving talks about the ministry in parishes and organizations, collaborating with the Support Committee, Region 2 Pastor and parish administrators.

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • A compassionate presence and ease in relating to people with mental disabilities
  • Preferred degree and/or experience in pastoral ministry, social work or teaching or related field
  • A strong faith and spirituality, able to sustain others in anguish and depression
  • Unafraid to visit homes in ‘rough’ neighborhoods, showing some authority
  • Have reliable transportation
