    The Ohio "concealed carry" law went into effect April 8, 2004. 

    Regarding church buildings, the law provides that a concealed handgun may not be carried into any church, or other place of worship unless the church or other place of worship permits otherwise.  Archbishop Pilarczyk has determined that no concealed handguns or weapons are permitted in any church building.  No signs are required to be posted at the doors of the church stating that concealed handguns or weapons are not permitted.

    Regarding school buildings, the law generally provides that a concealed handgun may not be carried in a "school safety zone."  A school safety zone consists of a school, school building, school premises, school activity, and school bus.  A school includes everything up to the property boundary.  School activity includes any activity held under the auspices of a school.  The principal or chief administrative officer of the school is required to post a sign in a conspicuous location in each building and on each parcel of real estate owned or controlled by the school.  The sign must contain this wording:

    Unless otherwise authorized by law, pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 2923.122, no person shall knowingly possess, have under the person's control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance into a school safety zone.

    In order to comply with this law, signs must be posted by every outside door of the school building, as well as by every door of every building where school activities are held, for example, a parish activity center.

    Regarding office buildings, the law provides that an employer may prohibit the presence of fire arms on the premises.  Archbishop Pilarczyk has determined that no concealed handguns or weapons of any kind are permitted in any parish or institution office building.  In order to comply with the law, a conspicuous sign must notify people that firearms and/or concealed handguns are prohibited.  The law suggests that the sign say substantially the following:

    Unless otherwise authorized by law, pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code, no person shall knowingly possess, have under the person's control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly handgun or dangerous ordnance onto these premises.

    A sign should be posted by every outside door of the office building.  Please note that the wording for this sign differs from the sign for a school.  These signs and the accompanying personnel policy may be downloaded by using the link above.  The policy for the Personnel Policy Guidelines for Parishes is Policy 6.5 "Weapons in the Workplace."

  • Mileage Reimbursement:  The Internal Revenue Service announced effective January 1, 2010 mileage reimbursement will be 50 cents per business mile.  Business mileage does not include travel to and from work.  Any reimbursement greater than 50 cents per mile must be reported as income. 

  • Health Insurance Coverage effective July 1, 2009.  Only the PPO plan through Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield is available to Archdiocesan employees.  If you have questions concerning your coverage for the Archdiocesan PPO Plan, please contact HealthSmart at (888) 411-6093.
     

  • Effective July 1, 2009, the new monthly rates for health care have increased 5% for this year and will be:

                               Single:     $519.00                 Family:     $1,205.00                  Retiree:     $238.00

 

  • Salary for Priests effective July 1, 2009

     2009-2010 salaries for diocesan priests and priests in diocesan assignments:

  1. Active priests will receive a base salary of $2,196.00 per month; $26,354.00 per year.  In addition, active priests receive $15 per month for each year of ordination ($180 per year). 

  2. Ministry allowance remains at $2,000 per year.

      2009-2010 salaries for retired diocesan priests:

  1. Retired priests will receive a base salary of $25,145.00 per year.  In addition, retired priests receive $15 per month for each year of ordination ($180 per year).

  2. Retired priests receive a Medicare Supplement to pay for part "B" coverage of $96.40 per month.
