Ministry of the Family Life Office
strives to embrace
each of God's people.

Catholic Ministry WITH Gays & Lesbians :
The Family Life Office recognizes that today's diverse families also need support to live a life that reflects God's covenant of unconditional love to all people. Inaugurated by Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk in 1998, this ministry pastorally reaches out to families where parents of gay and lesbian persons, their families and friends may:

  • … find peer support among others of the Catholic faith who are dealing with the same situation,
  • … receive accurate information about homosexuality,
  • … learn the Church's teaching and position and find their place in the Christian community.

Catholic Ministry WITH Gays & Lesbians strives to embrace each of God's people, build bridges of understanding and heal shattered relationships with families and friends by providing:

  • … Referrals to support groups and professional services if requested.
  • … Opportunities for spiritual growth, prayer gatherings and spiritual sharing groups.
  • … Education and resources for parishes, schools, and diocesan agencies.

"Though at times you may feel discouraged, hurt, or angry, do not walk away from your families, from the Christian community, from all those who love you. In you God's love is revealed. You are always our children."
(National conference of Catholic Bishops: 1997)
