| 2004 Report on Child Abuse in the Archdiocese |
|
In 2004, a total of 16 new credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor were brought forward against previously accused priests. There were also another seven accusations against priests not previously accused. Of the seven priests accused for the first time in 2004, investigations are in process with two priests, four priests are deceased, and one was the subject of an accusation that was investigated by the civil authorities and found to be without substance. The Archdiocese spent about $1,295,000 in 2004 on expenses related to child abuse by priests. The money came from general revenues available, not from the parish weekly collection basket, not from the Archbishop's Annual Fund Drive, and not from any other targeted collection. This was also true of earlier expenditures. Approximately $719,000 was spent in 2004 on child protection efforts. |
