Young, vibrant, faith filled, suburban parish has an immediate opening for an energetic, enthusiastic, practicing Roman Catholic as a Coordinator of Student Ministry. This position is an important priority of the parish’s strategic vision to “increase the engagement of parish youth and young adults in knowing, loving and living their faith.”
Youth and young adults currently serve on various councils and committees of the parish as well as many liturgical ministries. With nearly 1,000 youth in grades 7-12 registered in the parish, and a pre-K through eighth grade school as part of the parish community, there is tremendous opportunity for increased ministerial growth and potential. In addition, there is an experienced, team-orientated parish staff and pastor already in place to support and assist.

St. Michael Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, seeks a full- time Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry who will also have responsibility for our Religious Education Program (REP). This person will be responsible for a parish-based ministry to junior and senior high youth, along with outreach to college-age and young adults. We are seeking a person to be active and visible with our students in our parish school; to plan events integrating catechesis and service with social, community-building activities. They will foster close communication with families of youth and collaborate with sports teams and scouts, acting as staff liaison to the Parish Boosters organization. The director will continue to develop a ministry to young adults in the area, both those currently attending a university and those who have graduated, building on the progress which has already been made. Other duties may be assigned as needed by the parish or discerned with the Pastor. The parish community consists of 6000 registered parishioners with 500 students in our pre-K through 8th grade elementary school. Our welcoming parish has over 50 active ministries and a strong social justice presence.
The Position: The Pastoral Associate for Adult Faith Formation creates and executes a multi-dimensional approach to forming the faith of adults in the parish from initial conversion to Christ through growth as missionary disciples. The Pastoral Associate will offer special emphasis toward young families and adults while providing opportunities for all adult age groups. The successful candidate is creative, a self-starter and well-grounded in Church teaching and evangelization skills. This position works in a team environment with the Pastor, staff, and volunteers and requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies or Education with a major focus in Theology. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required. Applicant should have three years’ experience in parish ministry.

St. Gertrude parish is run by the Dominican Province of St. Joseph and is a large, active parish of 2,200+ families with many varied ministries. The music plays a very important role in the prayer life of the parish. Our liturgy makes use of the Mass propers and ordinary as well as hymnody, chant, and choral works drawn from across the centuries of the church’s musical patrimony.
Instrument: Organ is a three manual Wicks/Walker hybrid installed in the choir loft three years ago.
• Accompany choir or cantor at three weekend Masses
• Accompany choir or cantor for Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and all major feast days (vigil and day of ) and extra services
• Accompany choir or cantor for first communion and confirmation masses
• Accompany yearly choral program for adult choir
• Accompany children’s choir performance (1-2 per year)
• May be required to be available for funerals occasionally if funeral organist is on vacation
• Ability to cantor in emergency situations a plus but not required
• Attendance at weekly choir rehearsals on an as-needed basis, as determined by Music Director
• Job responsibility does not include liturgical planning
• Master’s Degree preferred, but a bachelor’s degree could be acceptable based on level and quality of applicant’s abilities
• Must be able to accompany with a musical sensitivity to singing
• Must be able to improvise on a hymn tune or a chant melody
• Ability to transpose desirable
• Must be a good sight-reader and be flexible
• Must have a good knowledge of standard organ repertoire
• Must have a willing, collaborative attitude
• Must understand or be willing to learn the details of Roman Catholic Liturgy
