Saint James is a suburban parish of 1800 households. This full-time staff member oversees the religious education for the young children of the parish. Among other programs, the parish has a Sunday pre-school religion program, a Parish School of Religion for students not attending a Catholic grade school, and a parish school with an enrollment of 550 in grades K through 8.
The CRE must be able to work in a collaborative style of ministry with professional staff members, volunteers and parents. This individual must be a practicing Catholic who possesses excellent supervisory, organizational and leadership skills.
Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in religious education, theology, pastoral ministry or related filed. The Music Minister serves the parish community as organist/pianist and choir director according to the highest professional standards of this profession. She or he must have a high degree of proficiency as an organist as attested to by formal credentials and/or performance audition. The individual must have a knowledge of the Church’s liturgical tradition, including current liturgical practice. The Music Minister reports to the pastor and is a member of the parish staff and of the parish Worship Commission. This is a full-time position.
The full-time position includes the following responsibilities. First and foremost, helps our community to pray by supporting all liturgies with inspirational and quality music. The individual provides music for all parish liturgical celebrations, including weddings and funerals, and special events. He or she is directly involved in the planning of liturgies. The director trains, directs and supervises our choir, instrumental ensembles and cantor programs, and works with our school children to lead singing at the weekly school Mass and other special events.
