Regional Justice Collaboratives

Social Justice Collaboratives in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are groups of parishes and Catholic organizations working together on pro-life and social justice issues, receiving staff support from the Catholic Social Action Office. Currently there are three collaboratives in the archdiocese. Each operates a little differently, but the goal of all three groups is to make a greater impact on a select number of social justice issues and to enhance social justice efforts at the parish level by building community, fostering collaboration, and sharing resources.

Cincinnati-based Social Justice Collaborative: Advocates for Justice

On February 24, 2011, the Advocates for Justice Greater Cincinnati Parish Collaborative held its annual Congress and voted to prioritize for 2011 the issues of immigration, criminal justice/jobs for ex-offenders, and ending the death penalty in Ohio.  Last year, Advocates for Justice worked on immigration, the foreclosure crisis and Parishes for Life. Check out what this exciting effort is all about!

Dayton-based Social Justice Collaborative: Weavers of Justice

The Weavers of Justice consist of 24 parishes,
6 Catholic agencies and 1 organization that work together on justice issues.

The 2012  initiatives of the Weavers of Justice are focused on restorative justice and poverty issues.

Soon we will produce a tri-fold brochure on Restorative Justice to explain how restorative justice offers healing to individuals and communities after a crime or other harm has occurred.  We also will continue our advocacy for the abolition of Ohio’s death penalty.

For poverty we are looking at a retreat that will help us understand the factors that contribute to poverty.  We are focusing on education programs for economic justice and/or viewing how the budget is a moral document.  We will work on making our legislative visits more effective and continue our letter writing efforts on the Circle of Protection, a U.S. Bishops initiative.

Springfield Catholic Social Action Committee

The committee meets monthly, rotating its meetings among Catholic parishes in Springfield.
