Regional Justice CollaborativesSocial Justice Collaboratives in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are groups of parishes and Catholic organizations working together on pro-life and social justice issues, receiving staff support from the Catholic Social Action Office. Currently there are three collaboratives in the archdiocese. Each operates a little differently, but the goal of all three groups is to make a greater impact on a select number of social justice issues and to enhance social justice efforts at the parish level by building community, fostering collaboration, and sharing resources. Cincinnati-based Social Justice Collaborative: Advocates for Justice
Dayton-based Social Justice Collaborative: Weavers of Justice
The 2012 initiatives of the Weavers of Justice are focused on restorative justice and poverty issues. Soon we will produce a tri-fold brochure on Restorative Justice to explain how restorative justice offers healing to individuals and communities after a crime or other harm has occurred. We also will continue our advocacy for the abolition of Ohio’s death penalty. For poverty we are looking at a retreat that will help us understand the factors that contribute to poverty. We are focusing on education programs for economic justice and/or viewing how the budget is a moral document. We will work on making our legislative visits more effective and continue our letter writing efforts on the Circle of Protection, a U.S. Bishops initiative. Springfield Catholic Social Action CommitteeThe Springfield Catholic Social Action Committee consists of parish representatives from St. Bernard, St. Joseph, St. Raphael, and St. Teresa and from the Catholic organizations of Mercy Medical Center, Catholic Central High School, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Social Services. The committee meets monthly, rotating its meetings among Catholic parishes in Springfield.
