Our Mission
CISE opens doors for poor urban children to attend Catholic schools where Gospel values are taught and students receive an excellent education in an environment of respect, safety and discipline.
Our Story
In 1980, during his tenure as Archbishop of Cincinnati, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin created the Catholic Inner-city Schools Education Fund (CISE) to help combat poverty in Cincinnati’s inner city neighborhoods. Working for social justice in a changing world, Cardinal Bernardin knew that the most valuable help that the local church could offer the poor and disadvantaged in our community was a Catholic school education. Catholic schools, pillars of those neglected communities, had educated generations of immigrants and helped get them on the road to prosperity and full participation in American society. With the hope of doing the same for the urban poor, Cardinal Bernadin established CISE to give all children, regardless of their religious backgrounds and economic circumstances, the opportunity to receive a quality education at a neighborhood Catholic school.
Today
There are over 1,400 students receiving a quality education in the eight CISE elementary schools. In addition, there are over 200 CISE school graduates attending Catholic high schools with the help of the CISE High School Grant Program. |
