Dater Sports Program

The CISE/Friars Club after-school study and sports program is made possible through a generous grant from the Charles H. Dater Foundation.  Emphasis is placed on respect, responsibility, leadership and good sportsmanship.

This program, which is administered by the Friars Club, organizes after-school sports teams for boys and girls grades K-8 at St. Francis Seraph School (Over-the-Rhine), St. Joseph School (West End), Corryville Catholic School (Corryville), St. Boniface School (Northside) and Resurrection School (Price Hill). The sports include basketball, volleyball and baseball.

Eighth grade and high school students are mentored to work with the younger children as volunteers in the program and then as coaches of the younger teams.

The Friars Club program organizes fourteen sports teams for boys and girls grades K-8 at five different CISE schools.  This program originally served 30 students in grades 5-8 at two schools and this year served 176 students in grades K-8 in five schools.

The After-School Study and Sports Program has been very successful and welcomed by the students, parents and faculty as indicated by the following.

  • Each year more students are involved in the program.
  • The school faculty stays involved to help promote positive student behavior during school and academic progress.
  • Study time prior to the athletic portion of the program helps promote academic progress.
  • A healthy snack helps promote physical wellness.
  • Parental involvement has increased.
  • All participating students know and understand the program values.
  • Athletic progress is visible.
