The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Catholic faith formation process for children ages 3 through 12 in which they experience and form an authentic, faithful relationship with God.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is based on liturgy, sacraments, scripture and prayer. Emphasis is on the relationship the child has with God. Although Christ centric the process is rich in doctrine. CGS is about conversion and evangelization providing the child with a strong faith foundation. It is a developmentally appropriate process that is in keeping with the Archdiocese’s Graded Course of Study for Early Childhood and Elementary Catechetical Programs.

Training is required for this process. Training provides not only an introduction to the work of CGS but provides for the theology and theological background to prepare the catechist. The training is recognized by the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for Catechist Certification.

A Basic Certificate is provided for Level One training; a General Certificate for Level Two and an Advanced Certificate for Level Three. You are to be certified at the level you teach. Applications are to be completed after taking the training. Submit a copy of the completion certificate with the application.
