Post-Abortion Healing Ministry of the Catholic Church

Project Rachel, the Catholic Church’s ministry to those who have been involved in abortion, was founded nationally in Milwaukee in 1984, in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in 1994, and is presently in 140 dioceses internationally. It is a diocesan-based network of specially trained priests, religious, counselors, and laypersons who provide a team response of care for those suffering in the aftermath of abortion. In addition to referring for Sacramental Reconciliation, the ministry provides an integrated network of services, including pastoral counseling, peer to peer ministry, spiritual direction, and referrals to mental health professionals. For downloadable brochures/flyers see the link below. To contact us, please call the HELPLINE or email us at:

The Women’s Retreats are specially designed for mothers affected by an abortion experience. They are offered twice a year (once in Dayton and once in Cincinnati) and provide healing for the women who attend. These weekend long retreats are a wonderful way to grow in your healing journey with other women who have had similar experiences.

The next Retreat Weekend is:

To Be Determined due to the COVID19 health emergency. Please consider attending a Day of Reflection instead.

Suggested donation for retreat weekend: $150 (or as much as you are able).

Call the HELPLINE for specific locations.

Our Day of Reflection is designed for ANY PERSON affected by an abortion experience. All are welcome: mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents, etc. There is no cost for the Day of Reflection and they take place twice a year (once in Dayton and once in Cincinnati). Registration is required for this event.

The next Days of Reflection will take place:

September 11, 2020 (Cincinnati) and October 3, 2020 (Dayton)

Support Groups are available in addition to individual care and are arranged by the team according to the needs of the participants.  These groups are created to fit the needs of each of the women involved and last about eight weeks. Support Groups are a way to go deeper into your healing experience in a smaller group setting.

Please call the HELPLINE or email us at: to discuss beginning a Support Group in your area.

“I’m thankful for the powerful, healing reminder that as long as we turn to God, He will love us no matter what.”

“I didn’t think anyone would understand how I felt. I was so relieved to be able to share my experience with someone who understood what I was going through. No one condemned me. They understood and helped me forgive myself.”
