Lesson Plans on Teaching the Roman Missal to Teens

The Roman Missal, Third Edition, which is the book of prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass, is now prepared for publication in its English translation.  This will bring a change in many of the prayers and people’s responses used at Mass, including most of the sung parts during liturgy to which people have become accustomed since the Roman Missal was first translated into English over 40 years ago. The Roman Missal, Third Edition will be implemented in the United States on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27,  2011.

All parishes should be planning for the implementation, including special opportunities for to learn the new responses, as well as receive catechesis on why the changes are happening.  In addition, this is a wonderful opportunity to help all of the Catholic faithful deepen their understanding of the Sacred Liturgy, and further appreciate its meaning and importance in our lives.

To this end, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry has developed a 6-part series on teaching teens about the Roman Missal.  For parishes inside the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, cost is $5 per CD.  For orders shipped outside of the Archdiocese, the cost is $15 for the first CD, and $10 for each additional. There are further discounts for larger orders. See below for order information.

What is on the CD?
Each CD contains 6 lesson plans. Each lesson plan comes with:

• A complete schedule of what to do for a 90 minute session
• Cognitive, affective and behavioral objectives
• Opening activity, scripts for talks, and an active closing prayer
• All necessary PowerPoint presentations and/or links to videos
• Detailed instructions on how to lead the sessions

What are the 6 sessions?

• Session 1: What’s the Word? The effect and importance of words in our lives
• Session 2: Times Are A Changin’ What is changing with the new Roman Missal?
• Session 3: Who’s There? Finding Jesus through the new prayers we’ll pray at mass
• Session 4: Are You Using Son Block? Proper dispositions and getting the most out of the Mass
• Session 5: Choose That Song! The importance of choosing music well for liturgy
• Bonus Session: Are You Hot or Cold? General session on prayer and relationship with God

Give your youth the help they need to understand more fully and upcoming changes and to integrate the Mass more fully into their lives.

If your parish is within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, simply contact us at cintioym@catholiccincinnati.org for a copy of the CD. The charge is $5 per CD if we can hand deliver them to you.

If your parish is outside of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, go to our order form to have as many shipped to you as you need. $15 for the first one, $10 for each one after that, with volume discounts for as few as 10.
