Strategic Planning for Dynamic Youth Ministry

What Does Strategic Planning Look Like?

There are two phases to the process:

Design Steps
1. Orient parish, pastoral region or cluster leadership to a vision of comprehensive youth ministry
2. Assess needs
3. Develop a mission statement, goals and action plans
4. Design your leadership structure
5. Get approval to proceed

Implementation Steps
1. Form & train the youth ministry leadership
2. Commission the team & kick-off the new ministry
3. Implement programming
4. Evaluate and fine-tune the program

Why Strategic Planning May Be Right For You:

Building comprehensive youth ministry in your parish, pastoral region or parish cluster is challenging. It takes hard work by a team of trained leaders, sharing a common vision, equipped with the right skills. The Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry (OYYAM) can help you meet these challenges with the
training, consultation, and team development of our Strategic Planning for Dynamic Youth Ministry.
T raining provides the knowledge and skills that are vital to effective youth ministry. Consultation helps you develop your mission, priorities and programs, and to develop your master youth ministry calendar. Team development results in effective groups of leaders who share a common vision, goals and dedication to serve youth. The combination of training, consultation and team development can effectively provide what your parish or cluster needs to jumpstart, organize, or re-organize youth ministry.

What You Will Gain

  • Effective ministry to, with, by and for the youth of your parish, pastoral region or cluster
  • Purposeful youth ministry that is guided by priority goals and objectives and responds to the needs and interests of your youth
  • Teams of empowered youth and adults who know what they’re doing and why

How Does Strategic Planning Work?

The OYYAM facilitates training, consultation and team development, on-site in your parish, region or cluster, including:

  • Assessing readiness and needs
  • Developing vision, mission, goals, and plans
  • Designing an effective leadership structure
  • Supporting and advising parish leaders along the way
  • Regular, on-going consultation

How Long Does Strategic Planning Take?

Your parish, pastoral region or cluster sets the pace for completion of the Strategic Plan. The initial design phase is facilitated by OYYAM staff. Its timing is fluid and may be accomplished within a 6-10 week period. Team-building and implementation are ongoing after that, with OYYAM staff available as consultants.

What is the Cost?

This service is offered at no charge to Archdiocesan parishes, pastoral regions and parish clusters. The normal costs of photocopying, mailings, hospitality, etc., are the responsibility of the parish(es).

How Do I (We) Sign Up?

Due to the extensive and intensive nature of this service and to its limited personnel resources, the OYYAM must limit the number of parishes or clusters in the Strategic Planning process at the same time. Contact your regional OYYAM right away if you’re interested. You may be placed on a waiting list.  Click here for contact info.
