Training Mixed Teams

On-Site Training for Youth Ministers, Volunteers and Teams

Journeying with young people in faith calls for broad competence in a variety of areas: leading small groups, designing retreats, giving a witness talk and so much more. Even if you have competence in any of these areas, perhaps the adult volunteers or youth leaders with whom you work do not, and you may feel unqualified to train them.  It may also be difficult to impossible to get your people together at a time when we already offer a regularly scheduled workshop.  Or perhaps you just want a great team-building opportunity.  This is where the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry can help with on-site training for youth ministry leaders, volunteers and teams.

If you have at least five participants who desire specific training, contact the OYYAM and we’ll work to arrange training on-site in your parish at a time convenient for you (weekday, weekend, day or evening)!  Depending on circumstances, we may ask that the training be open to any others in the Archdiocese who may want to participate as well.

Most workshops are 2 or 2 1/2 hours in length. Seminars are 5-10 hours in length.  Most workshops and seminars have been designed for adults, but many can be adapted for use with your team of adults and youth.

Choose the format that works for you. Choose a single workshop or seminar, or string together a series. Everything is á la carte.   Here are some examples:

  • Single workshop
  • Workshop series (one workshop a week for several weeks)
  • Seminar (an extended program, day-long, weekday or weekend)
  • Seminar series (a string of seminars scheduled bi-weekly)
  • TNT (Training and Nurturing Teams: a day-long seminar for your team of adults and youth)

Contact the OYYAM with your preferences and work out a mutually agreeable arrangement. A fee will be assessed for each training based on the type and duration of the program, and for materials.
