YOUTH EVENTS SUMMER 2012
CREDO North is a Eucharist-centered 3 1/2 day retreat and discipleship experience that gives young people an opportunity to grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church, and encourages them to become active in their parishes and the programs of the Archdiocese. Credo will include Mass, adoration, sacraments, fellowship, music, prayer, reflection, and talks by some fantastic speakers. Archbishop Schnurr and Bishop Binzer will be joining us for Mass. Junior High Summer CAMP (Catholic And Mighty Proud). JH CAMP is a weekend of fun, exciting learning experiences for incoming 7th and 8th graders. JH youth will learn more about God and the Catholic faith through innovative and interactive discovery sessions. LAUDATE: Forming Youth for Music Ministry! This popular four-day, three-night workshop features sessions in voice and other instruments used in liturgy. Teens will learn liturgy fundamentals and hear witnesses from those who work in the field. This program is designed for young people who love song, music, and faith, and want to bring them together in a fun community experience during the summer. Rooted in the Vine, a social teaching retreat for high school youth. Through collaboration of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Catholic Social Action Office and the OYYAM, T.A.C.K.L.E., a staple program here for 20 years, has been revamped and renamed. Now known as Rooted in the Vine, this 6-day retreat experience is full of fun and eye-opening opportunities which will challenge your youth to see from others’ perspectives and grow in love of God and neighbor. OTHER ARCHDIOCESAN NEWS
Archdiocesan Summit 2012: ReVITALizing the Domestic Church. Online registration is now open! Mark your calendars for this historic summit for all parish and school leaders responsible for nurturing family faith. This two-day event, Oct. 1-2 at the Dayton Convention Center, will be to pray and envision of dynamic ways to effectively proclaim the Gospel message in our time. The goal is to explore the challenges that families face today and discover together viable tools and methods for evangelizing and ministering to the church of the home. Foundations of Leadership: A Course for Ministry Professionals: This college level course (may optionally be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit) is a must for those who bear responsibility for implementing comprehensive youth ministry as a community’s part-time or full-time youth ministry professional. Now in its eighth year, this course has been redesigned to reflect the latest research on adolescents, Pope Benedict XVI’s focus on the New Evangelization and our new pastoral plan. Classes are Thursdays, 9:30am-12:30pm from August 23-December 13. More information coming to our website soon.


Strong Catholic Families: Strong Catholic Youth. This national project and connected presentations are now available in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Built on the foundation of our Will Our Kids Have Faith? presentations, Strong Catholic Families picks up where they leave off and works to equip parishes, pastoral regions, parents and families to build up the domestic church of the home. SERVICE
Looking for financial assistance for your parish mission trip? There are limited subsidies for parish youth trips available through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Mission Office. Parish youth ministers and trip leaders are invited to contact the Mission Office for an application form to seek supplemental funds to help your parish youth ministry program participate in an immersion/mission trip. Looking for a mission trip close to home? The Franciscans for the Poor Mission Trips, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, are now scheduling 2012 mission trips in Cincinnati, Ohio. Shorter trips in the summer and spring break are available for junior high youth ministry or confirmation class. Contact Marci Peebles at DirectorFranForThePoor@fuse.net for details.


The iPlunge week-long service learning retreat for teens combines volunteer service in the Greater Cincinnati area with Ignatian study and prayer. Retreatants are housed at the Jesuit Spiritual Center and spend their days alternating between work projects and service learning experiences at such helping organizations as Tender Mercies, St. Vincent de Paul and the Free Store Food Bank. RETREATS
Summer Personally Directed Retreats: Need several days to yourself? The Jesuit Spiritual Center is offering three Personally Directed Retreas, (June 15-22, July 13-20 and August 3-10) to allow you to step away from the demands of everyday life and to concentrate on the things that matter most. Each day includes Mass, a meeting with a spiritual director, and time for contemplative and solitary activities. Although the retreats last seven days, accommodation can be made for shorter stays. New USCCB Document: The New Evangelization provides an opportunity for all Catholics to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, according to a new document from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization focuses on reaching out to Catholics, practicing or not, who have lost a sense of the faith in an effort to re-energize them. The document examines what the New Evangelization is, its focus, its important for the church, and how dioceses and parishes can promote it. Download the document here.


Vibrant Faith Ministries is excited to launch its newest online resource designed to equip and empower households in their faith journey. Just create a FREE username at www.vibrantfaithathome.org and you will find all of the tools, tips and resources you need to build a strong Christian household. With how-to videos for sharing Christian faith at home and more than 50 faith forming activities linked to the events of everyday life, check out this new ecumenical resource and consider passing along to your parish families.


Pray-as-you-go is a free daily prayer session designed for use on your MP3 player to help you pray while traveling to and from work, study, etc. It is not a ‘Thought for the Day’, but a framework for your own prayer. Lasting from 10-13 minutes, it uses music, scripture and questions for reflection. The aim is to help you to become more aware of God’s presence in your life, listen to and reflect on God’s word, and grow in your relationship with God.
