Twinning Partner:  Sisters of Divine Providence, Madagascar

Twinning Mission: Our Commission is dedicated to fostering the unconditional love of Jesus Christ throughout the church community. We will provide an atmosphere of joy, openness, caring and hospitality by listening to, understanding and responding to the needs of our sisters and brothers in Jesus Christ.

Benefits of the Relationship: The benefits of Twinning are many. First we learn about another culture and acceptance of that culture. Secondly, it broadens our idea of church, growing in joy, reverence and humility. And best of all the friendships we have developed are over the top even though they are halfway around the world.

Challenges: Our most difficult challenge is the distance; a (24) hour ride by plane. The languages spoken in Madagascar are French and Malagasy. We are having better luck learning the French.

Tips to Building a Healthy Relationship: Be open to the natural development of a friendship. Be patient and honest. Americans with action plans sometimes want immediate results. Be careful in explaining your intentions and make sure they are rooted in Jesus.

Other: It was the year of the jubilee 2000 and we heard the pope’s message loud and clear to “open wide the doors to Christ”. One of the greatest gifts Jesus has given us is the universal church, blessing and calling us to a relationship with our brothers and sisters in faith. So, as members of the Parish Life Commission we felt one way to accomplish this was through twinning. After all our own patron saint, Therese of Lisieux longed to be a missionary.  We chose Madagascar because our DRE, Sr. Francis Maag, had just returned from a trip there visiting her order of Divine Providence. We heard her stories of love and friendship and knew that these sisters were truly about building up the body of Christ.
