Where two or three are gathered....

March 21, 2010, Gospel reading for the Fifth Sunday of Lent, John 8:1-11

  • Read a short homily on this gospel

  • Read a brief exegesis on this gospel
(Exegesis is a critical explanation of a biblical passage that attempts to find out what the writer was trying to say and what was actually said.)

  • Discussion Question for this weeks gospel:
It seems that many of the readings this Lent challenge us to reconcile broken relationships by calling us to look at our part in the brokenness.  We often assume the role of the "wronged" one.  That keeps us from reaching out and extending forgiveness.  This gospel reminds us that there is no one without sin.  To whom can you reach out this week?

God of all Creation

You gather us in your steadfast love to continue the work begun in your Son, Jesus Christ. Send us the gift of your Holy Spirit that we might open our hearts to your word.

Give us the courage to preach the gospel with great trust in you, and the strength to live the gospel as your adopted children.

We ask you to bless our work this day that we might be faithful to the call of your Son to bring justice, peace, compassion, and mercy to all.

We ask this through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
