Gospel reading for July 5: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mark 6:1-6

·         Read a short homily on this gospel
·
Read a brief exegesis on this gospel
(Exegesis is a critical explanation of a biblical passage that attempts to find out what the writer was trying to say and what was actually said.)

Reflection:

Jesus returns to his hometown where he is looked upon with distrust and rejection.  How could this carpenter with little education be doing and saying such extraordinary things?  When in your life have you been met with such rejection from your family and community?  Did the feelings leave you paralyzed and unable to do good?

God of all Creation

You gather us in your steadfast love to continue the work begun in your Son, Jesus Christ. Send us the gift of your Holy Spirit that we might open our hearts to your word.

Give us the courage to preach the gospel with great trust in you, and the strength to live the gospel as your adopted children.

We ask you to bless our work this day that we might be faithful to the call of your Son to bring justice, peace, compassion, and mercy to all.

We ask this through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
