Retreats In John Paul II’s Apostolic Exhortation, Ecclesia in America,
the Holy Father says that all the members of the church are called to evangelize and this comes out of “fresh encounter with Jesus Christ”
(7). Retreats offer that opportunity for the faithful to break away from the every day busy-ness, to reflect upon
their baptismal call as Christians, to ponder the deeper questions concerning the meaning and purpose of their lives and to come to a
renewed and fresh encounter with the Risen Christ in the context of the faith community. Here are a
few examples of retreats that are available. ACTS
“An ACTS retreat is a three day and three night Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners. The retreat begins on
Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday at a Mass celebrated with the parish community. Retreats for men and retreats for women
are given separately. Talks and activities during the retreat focus on Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service, from which the
ACTS acronym is derived. Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church are the guides for the retreats.
The retreat takes on the traditions and atmosphere of the parish community sponsoring it. The retreat facilitates the attainment of a
new or deeper relationship with the Lord.” For more information, contact:

Christ Renews His Parish
These are men’s and women’s retreats that are conducted in the parish from Saturday morning until the late afternoon on Sunday.
The retreats are led by a team of parishioners and clergy who would have already participated on a ChiRP retreat. The format consists
of witness talks on various catechetical and kerygma themes. For more information contact:

These are men’s and women’s retreats that are conducted typically at a retreat location for an entire diocese and start on a
Thursday evening and go through Sunday afternoon. They are typically offered a couple of times per year and some dioceses offer
retreats in Spanish. The retreats are led by a team of people who have already participated in a Cursillo retreat. The format
consists of witness talks on various catechetical and kerygma themes, table discussion, and incorporation of the sacraments of
Reconciliation and Eucharist. Those who finish a Cursillo retreat continue to meet monthly in small groups called “Ultreya”.
