Preparing for the Synod
Below you will find a letter from Archbishop Schnurr that serves as an invitation for you to provide input as we prepare for the 2018 Ordinary Synod on the theme: Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. We would also appreciate you sharing his letter with everyone in your ministry area, parish, organization who works with young people ages 16-29 (whether a paid employee or a volunteer) so that we can collect as much feedback as possible.
Please be sure to check out the links inside of the Archbishop’s letter below for the Preparatory Document on the Synod and the questionnaire for the Archdiocese. The questionnaire will be available until May 19, 2017.

Dear Department and Office Directors of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati,
Recently I received correspondence from Lorenzo Cardinal Baldisseri, the General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, regarding the upcoming XV Ordinary General Assembly of Bishops which will convene in October 2018 on the theme: Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. This correspondence requests a wide participation on the part of the Archdiocese in providing input for the Synod on this important topic. This correspondence requests a wide participation on the part of the Archdiocese in providing input for the Synod on this important topic.
The process of preparing for the Ordinary Synod begins by sharing the preparatory document for the Synod with each of the world’s dioceses and consulting with each diocese. I have asked the Office for Youth Evangelization and Discipleship to carry out those responsibilities on behalf of the Archdiocese in preparation for the Synod. The first task involves disseminating the Preparatory Document and the questionnaire to all who are involved in working with youth (the Vatican designation for “youth” is young people ages 16-29). Links to both items are included below. The questionnaire must be completed by May 19, 2017 in order for the committee to compile all of the results into the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s report which will be submitted to the USCCB in September.
I encourage you to please complete the questionnaire yourselves, and to pass this letter along to those in your ministry area who work with young people ages 16-29.
Finally, I would also like to inform you that the Vatican is actively working on a youth portal — a website by which youth themselves can submit feedback directly to the Vatican for review. This youth portal is separate and independent of the questionnaire for those who work with young people that is linked in this letter. We anticipate this portal to be available later this Spring and will pass it along to you for dissemination amongst the youth of the Archdiocese at that time.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+Dennis M. Schnurr
