FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 11, 2000ARCHDIOCESE SPONSORS SEVEN-CHURCH PILGRIMAGE
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is going on pilgrimage. As part of its celebration of the Great Jubilee, the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Archdiocese -- with the co-operation of the Diocese of Covington, Ky. -- is sponsoring a seven-church pilgrimage within the two dioceses.
Seven churches of historical and artistic significance have been designated in each of the three areas of the Archdiocese for visiting between 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. The churches will be open, many with guides, during those hours.
Anyone may take part as an individual and visit the churches in any order, although some parishes are organizing transportation so that members may go together as a parish activity.
The churches are:
In Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky -- the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, Old St. Marys, St. Francis Xavier, Holy Cross-Immaculata, St. Louis, Mother of God (Covington), the Basilica of the Assumption (Covington).
In Dayton -- Immaculate Conception, Holy Family, Emmanuel, Holy Trinity, St. Joseph, St. Mary, Holy Angels.
In the Northern Area -- Immaculate Conception, Celina; Holy Trinity, Coldwater, Saint Henry, St. Henry; St. Rose, St. Rose; Shrine of the Holy Relics, Maria Stein; St. Augustine, Minster; St. Michael, Ft. Loramie.
The idea of a seven-church pilgrimage comes from a 400-year tradition in Rome started by St. Philip Neri.
