Register for Feb. 12 Lincoln teach-in

The History Channel, together with the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, will feature a National Teach-In on the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 p.m. Educators and students can tune in and view the live webcast online at www.history.com/lincoln. Enrichment resources and study guides, which may be used at any time or in preparation for the event, also are available at this site. The content is recommended for middle through high school, with a particular emphasis on grade 8. Click here to register for the free webcast. Send any questions by e-mail to lincoln@aetn.com.

Web site features past inaugural addresses

With the recent inauguration of President Barack Obama, teachers may want to review inaugural speeches of past U.S. presidents, as they reflect much of what was going on in the country at that particular time. For example, given the present economic crisis, it might be interesting for students to look at FDR’s first inaugural address and compare it with that of President Obama’s. Click here for the Bartleby Web site which features texts of past inaugural addresses
