Free financial literacy resources available online

 

A free, online financial education resource is available from Ohio’s credit unions. MoneyAndStuff™ is a comprehensive, one-stop Web portal of financial education lesson plans, personal finance tips, budget worksheets and interactive games for educators and parents. Plans are sorted by age, with topics ranging from basic money concepts to saving and investing. The Web site was created to assist classroom educators in developing classroom resources for financial literacy. In addition, credit union staff and volunteers are available to conduct financial education training. Contact your local credit union to learn more about services credit unions have to offer your school. Online magazine for elementary teachers meshes science with literacy teaching

 

Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears is a free online professional development magazine for elementary teachers that focuses on preparing to teach polar science concepts in an already congested curriculum by integrating inquiry-based science with literacy teaching. Such an integrated approach can increase students' science knowledge, academic language, reading comprehension, and written and oral discourse abilities. Click here to preview the site.

 

 

New Spanish encyclopedia joins INFOhio Core Collection

 

INFOhio now has three online foreign language encyclopedias in the Core Collection of Electronic Resources. The newest edition is Gran Enciclopedia Hispánica from World Book, a comprehensive Spanish-language encyclopedia written from a Latin American perspective with special emphasis on science, technology, history and art. Gran Enciclopedia Hispánica includes themes of the day, an interactive atlas, multimedia resources, timelines, a comprehensive dictionary, a homework help area for different grade levels, and a visual navigation for the visual learner. Other INFOhio foreign language encyclopedias are L'Encyclopédie Découverte for French-speaking students, and Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos for younger Spanish-speaking students.
