State Library promotes local reading projects
Choose to Read Ohio, a project of the State Library of Ohio in partnership with the Ohioana Library, is designed to promote reading by connecting children, families and all Ohioans in the experience of sharing Ohio literature together. The goal is to encourage the reading of books written by Ohio authors. Local communities will collectively choose a title and read it together over a six-week period, any time between National Library Week (April 2009) and the end of 2010. The program will bring people together to discuss the books in a variety of settings – local public libraries, schools, churches, daycare centers and other organizations.
The Choose to Read Web site will offer a list of book titles for every age group and a downloadable toolkit for each title. Throughout 2009, resources will be added to the Web site, including tip sheets, discussion guides and author information. For details on Choose to Read Ohio, go to the Web site or contact Ruth Metcalf at the State Library of Ohio: rmetcalf@sloma.state.oh.us. |
