Consumerism

I saw a photo on Facebook yesterday. It was of a girl crying hysterically because she got a white iPhone for Christmas instead of a black one. Next to it was a photo of two dirty feet wearing flip-flops made from old cloth and flattened 2 liter bottles. No words were necessary – the picture said enough.  It is easy to look at these Facebook things and then forget them when the next photo comes along. But this one stuck with me. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this world we share is really God’s world, and still harder to believe that it is a celebration of goodness and love.
