Grateful Believers

Celebrating 25 years with gratitude
CATHEDRAL DEANERY - The Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains was filled to the brim with well-wishers, brother bishops and priests Dec. 16 for the liturgy celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk's quarter-century as Archbishop of Cincinnati. With elegant revelry provided by the Choir of St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, processions led by priests of the archdiocese, presidents of Catholic colleges and universities, knights and ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and the Knights of the Order of Malta, the liturgy was held at 2:30 p.m., followed by a reception on the third floor of the Duke Energy Convention Center.


St. Ursula Academy soccer team celebrates state championship

ARCHDIOCESE - The St. Ursula Academy soccer team won its third Division I state championship trophy Nov. 10 after defeating the Strongsville Mustangs 2-1 at Crew Stadium in Columbus. The first two state titles were won in 1991 and 1993.


St. Ursula Villa wins SAY title

ARCHDIOCESE - St. Ursula Villa's Soccer team of fifth- and sixth-grade girls won the state SAY title Nov. 11 with a score of 3-1.


Officials planning 2008 Rice Bowl initiative

ARCHDIOCESE -- In the midst of Advent, employees in the archdiocesan Catholic Social Action office and Catholic Relief Services officials are looking ahead to Lent and the annual Operation Rice Bowl campaign (ORB).


St. Xavier students reach 100,000-pound drive goal

ST. MARGARET MARY DEANERY - St. Xavier High School met its 100,000-pound goal while continuing an 80-year tradition of helping the needy of Cincinnati at Christmas. The school's annual canned food drive, dating back to 1928, hit the six-figure mark in pounds of food collected Dec. 13.


More than 110 focus on RCIA at workshop

DAYTON DEANERY - Well over 110 priests, deacons and Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) directors and team members from throughout the archdiocese were recently re-energized at a daylong workshop at Ascension Parish in Kettering.
