Catholic Social Services of Southwestern Ohio announces new home for RSVP

ARCHDIOCESE — Catholic Social Services of Southwestern Ohio is pleased to announce the addition of the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) to the list of services it provides to the Greater Cincinnati community. The program came under the auspices of Catholic Social Services as of Jan. 1.

RSVP connects volunteers age 55 and over with service opportunities in their communities that match their skills and availability. From building houses to immunizing children, from enhancing the capacity of non-profit organizations to improving and protecting the environment, RSVP volunteers put their unique talents to work to make a difference.

"Catholic Social Services is excited to be the local agency administering the RSVP program in our region," said Kathleen Donnellan, executive director for Catholic Social Services of Southwestern Ohio. "This is an excellent program that provides volunteer services to our community. It fits into our mission of helping others and enhances the program offerings we have here at CSS."

RSVP is one of the three initiatives that make up Senior Corps. Senior Corps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation. Catholic Social Services of Southwestern Ohio currently offers the other two Senior Corps programs, Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions. This makes CSS of SW Ohio the sole provider of all three Senior Corps programs in the region.

"We are honored to have all three Senior Corps programs serving the area housed at CSS," said Dave Mikkelsen, director of the Senior Corps programs at CSS. "Our familiarity with the corporation and how they do things should help make this a smooth transition, from an administrative standpoint." The RSVP program in Greater Cincinnati was maintained by Family Services for the past six years.
