A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 19 for Jesuit Father George R. Follen, 92, at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich. He died April 8 at Colombiere Center.

A native of Cleveland, he earned a philosophy degree from West Baden College in West Baden Springs, Ind., in 1942, a master’s degree in chemistry from St. Louis University and degree in theology from West Baden College in 1949. He was ordained in 1949.

He was a teacher at Xavier University in Cincinnati from 1943-44. He wrote a chemistry book while serving at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. He also taught at schools in Cleveland and Detroit and served as a pastoral minister at a church in Detroit.

Interment was in Colombiere Center Cemetery.

Sister Sandra Faith Alvin

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 21 for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Sandra Faith Alvin, 60, at the motherhouse chapel in Cincinnati. She died April 15 in Cincinnati at Good Samaritan Hospital.

A native of Newark, N.J., she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1991, serving 16 years. She earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1974.

Following seven years of nursing at the Sisters of Charity Mother Margaret Hall nursing facility, she moved to San Diego, Calif., to work in rehabilitation nursing for three years and then traveled to Lincoln, Neb., to work with the Benedictine Sisters. In 1998, she returned to Cincinnati as assistant director of nursing at Archbishop Leibold Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor. In 1994, she joined the Council on Aging in Hamilton County as nursing manager for the Elderly Services Program.

She is survived by her stepmother, Mary Catherine Alvin; her sisters, Donna Ives and

Marilyn McDonnell, and her brother, Robert Mynes.

Interment was in the convent cemetery.

Sister Helen Lawrence

A memorial Mass was celebrated April 22 for Franciscan Sister Helen (Cherabine) Lawrence, 93, at the Sisters of St. Francis motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg, Ind. She died April 19.

Sister Helen served at several schools in Indiana and Ohio, including Our Lady of Mercy in Dayton, Our Lady of Angels and Our Lady of Victory in Cincinnati.

She is survived by her sister, Franciscan Sister Mary Emmett Lawrence.

Interment was in the convent cemetery.
