Prayer service for Veillette family Jan. 17

ST. ANDREW DEANERY — A community prayer service will be held Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at St. Susanna Church in Mason for the five members of the Veillette family killed in their home Jan. 11. Father John Tonkin, associate pastor, will preside at the service.

Nadya Ferrari-Veillette, 33, and her children, Marguerite, 8; Vincent, 4; and three-year-old twins Jacob and Mia, attended Mass regularly at the parish, where Marguerite made First Communion last year and was enrolled in the religious education program.

Michel Veillette, 34, is accused of starting the fire that killed the children and of stabbing his wife, who died from her wounds. He is hospitalized but will be released from the hospital to the Warren County Jail. He has been charged with murder, aggravated murder and aggravated arson; a grand jury will evaluate evidence, and the charges could change, according to county prosecutor Rachel Hutzel.

According to Father Dan Schuh, pastor of St. Susanna, the parish has offered to help extended family, all of whom have traveled from the Quebec province of Canada, in any way they can. The Veillettes were natives of Laval in Quebec. At press time, funeral arrangements for the family had not been made.
