| Father Clement Kuhns
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 19 for Missionary of the Precious Blood Father Clement Kuhns, 86, at St. Charles Center in Carthagena. He died Jan. 16 at St. Charles.
A native of Canton, OH,. he entered the Precious Blood Community in 1936 and was ordained on May 16, 1948. After ordination Father Kuhns taught Latin and Greek at Saint Josephs College in Rensselaer, Ind. He also served as assistant director of seminarians there. In 1962, he was appointed magister spiritus of brothers for the congregation.
Father Kuhns entered parish ministry in 1970 as parochial vicar first of Corpus Christi Church in Dayton, then of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Cleveland. In 1972 he was named pastor of St. Henry Church in St. Henry, Ohio. He served as pastor of the Church of the Nativity in Lake Mary, Fla., from 1977 to 1983. Father Kuhns then lived outside the community for several years before returning in 1994. Ill health caused his retirement to St. Charles Center, where he made his home until his death.
He is survived by a brother, Harold "Barney" Kuhns, Santa Maria, Calif. and three sisters, Josephite Sister Naomi Kuhns of Richfield, OH., Josephite Sister Laura Kuhns of Cleveland, and Rosemary Tonti of Fort Myers, Fla.
Burial was in the community cemetery.
Brother Charles Kennedy
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 16 for Glenmary Home Missioner Brother Charles Kennedy, 78, at St. Matthias Church in Cincinnati. A Brother for almost 50 years, he died Jan. 11 at the Glenmary residence in Cincinnati.
He earned a bachelors degree from Maryknoll Seminary in 1951 and worked as a music consultant and in music ministry in missions in North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky. For 14 years, he served as assistant house director at Glenmarys headquarters, where his duties included maintenance and grounds care. In 1987, he was assigned as the pastoral associate to Glenmarys St. Jude mission in Glennville, Ga., and the nearby missions in Claxton and Pembroke until he moved to Cincinnati in 2007. After gaining his bachelors degree in sacred music from Manhattanville College, he served as Glenmarys music consultant from 1969-71.
Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery.
Sister Jean Clare Kenney
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 18 for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Jean Clare Kenney, 95, at the motherhouse chapel in Delhi Township. She died Jan. 14 at Mother Margaret Hall.
A native of Cleveland, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1931. She earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a masters in clinical pathology from Ohio State University. She was a registered clinical pathologist who instructed and supervised medical technologists at hospitals in Ohio, Colorado and New Mexico. She worked with the Right to Life Committee nationally and locally. She taught medical technology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati from 1937-55, when she moved to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., to serve as a laboratory supervisor. In 1963, she returned to Cincinnati to teach medical technology at Good Samaritan Hospital. She assumed the role of full-time superior at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton in 1968. From 1969-75, she served at the University of New Mexico as a hospital medical technology teacher and education coordinator. She retired to the motherhouse in 1995.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen Cunningham; and her brothers Richard and John.
Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.
