Moeller student killed in crash

ARCHDIOCESE — The Moeller High School community is mourning the loss of one of its own after Jordan Bessey, 17, who was set to start his senior year, was killed in a one-car accident in Hamilton Township on July 9. His passenger, Patrick Hartman, 16, a junior at Little Miami High School, was transported to a local hospital and later released.

A group of 600 classmates and friends came together the next day at Moeller to remember Bessey at a solemn prayer service. Grief counselors were also on hand to lend their support to students. Bessey was a varsity linebacker for the Crusaders, known for his love of life and enthusiasm on and off the field.

Funeral services were held for Bessey on July 14 at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia, followed by interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Union Township.

Bessey is survived by his mother and step-father, Jennifer and Jeff Crozier, his father, Walter Bessey, his brother, Andrew, 19, and sister, Rachel, 11, and his grandparents, Harold and Alberta Bessey, Bill and Barb Bailey, Sandra and Steve Moss and Tom and Mary Crozier.

Sister Angela Graves

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 5 for Ursuline (Brown County) Sister Angela Graves, 88, at the congregation’s Sacred Heart Chapel in St. Martin, Ohio. She died July 3, at the Sisters’ residence, after a long illness.

A native of Chelsea, Mass., she enjoyed a successful career with Mutual of New York Life and Health Insurance Company before joining the Brown County Ursulines in 1967. Sister Angela taught at St. Peter School in Huber Heights and St. Vivian School in Cincinnati until her election to the community’s leadership council at which time she was appointed treasurer of the congregation. After completing training as a hospital chaplain in 1983, Sister Angela served at the former Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont and Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. After retiring in 1995, she remained active by participating in and ministry to a local senior citizens group.

Interment was in the congregation’s cemetery in Brown County.
