Sister Catherine McCabe

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 24 for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Catherine Laboure McCabe, 93, at the Mount St. Joseph motherhouse chapel in Delhi Township. She died May 20 at Mother Margaret Hall.

After earning her degrees in French from the College of Mount St. Joseph and the Athenaeum of Ohio, she began her teaching ministry in 1935. She served most of her 55 years in education teaching elementary school in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati at Holy Family, 1936-41; St. Elizabeth in Norwood, 1941-43 and 1959-64; Holy Angels in Sidney 1943-45; St. Patrick, 1945-46; St. John the Baptist in Harrison, 1947-52; St. Saviour in Rossmoyne, 1952-53; St. Gabriel Consolidated in Glendale, 1953-59; St. Jude, 1964-70; St. Dominic, 1970-83; St. Lawrence, 1983-90 and St. Vincent de Paul, 1990-94. She retired to the motherhouse in 1994.

Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.

Sister Catherine Ann Hillman

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 21 for Franciscan Sister Catherine Ann Hillman at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Ind. She died May 18 at St. Clare Hall in Oldenburg at the age of 91.

A native of Richmond, Ind., she entered the convent in 1938 and professed her final vows in 1944.

She ministered in elementary education from 1941-60 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Cincinnati and St. Peter in Chillicothe. She also taught in Indiana, Missouri and Illinois. In later years, she followed a nursing career and ministered from 1960-93 in the Sisters' Infirmary at the motherhouse.

Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.

Sister Bonaventure Schmeidler

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 25 for Sister of Charity Bonaventure Schmeidler, 81, at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse chapel in Delhi Township. She died May 22 at Mother Margaret Hall. She was a native of Hays, Kan.

She joined the Sisters of Charity in 1945 and began her work in Colorado. In 1952, she moved to Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton as a nursing supervisor until 1954. She returned to Colorado for a year, then returned to Good Samaritan from 1955-59. In 1964, she became a nursing instructor at Mother Margaret Hall in Cincinnati. From 1969-73, she served as an instructor at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati and at the College of Mount St. Joseph. Also, she was an assistant professor at the College of Mount St. Joseph from 1985-87 and a nursing consultant at the Harrison House in Cincinnati from 1985-90.

She was the director of nursing at Bayley Place in Delhi from 1990-93. She also coordinated the nurse aid training program for Bayley Place, The Sisters of Charity motherhouse and Mother Margaret Hall nursing facility until retiring to the motherhouse in 1966.

She is survived by two sisters, Carole Rumme and Jeannette Flax; and a brother, Ernest.

Interment was in the convent motherhouse cemetery.

Sister Helen (M. Adelma) Behr

A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Rose Behr, 89, was held at Salem Heights on May 23. Sister Helen died May 18 at Maria Joseph Living Care Center in Dayton. She had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 70 years.

A native of Pittsville, Wis., she entered the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1936 and received the name Sister Mary Adelma.

She spent 35 years as a teacher and principal serving in Ohio schools as well as schools in California, Indiana and Virginia. In 1983, she became an environmental specialist at St. Joseph Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., also volunteering in the medical center's pastoral care and provided pastoral ministry at St. Anthony Church in Phoenix. She retired to Salem Heights in 1996 until declining health necessitated her moving to Maria Joseph Living Care Center in 2006.

Two sisters, Christine Hnatt of Kettering and Agnes Voisard of South Daytona, Fla. survive her. She donated her body to Wright State University. Final interment will be in Salem Heights Cemetery.
