| Father Jovian Weigel
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 7 for Franciscan Father Jovian Weigel, 87, at Archbishop Leibold Home in Cincinnati. He died June 5 at the home.
A native of Batesville, Ind., he was ordained in 1948 in Oldenburg, Ind. The majority of his ministry was devoted to pastoral work, chaplaincies and service to the Secular Franciscan Order where he ministered as provincial assistant for 30 years.
He was associate pastor at St. Francis Seraph Parish in Cincinnati from 1948-52 and associate at St. Bonaventure from 1952-56. In 1986, he became chaplain at Archbishop Leibold Home.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Strange, and brother, Gerard Weigel.
Interment was in St. Mary Cemtery in St. Bernard.
Sister Jane Anne Speier
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 31 for Franciscan Sister Jane Anne Speier (Sister Marie Adelaide), 87, at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Ind. She died May 28 at St. Clare Hall at Oldenburg.
She professed her final vows in 1944. She was a dedicated teacher, principal and librarian and ministered at St. Anthony Parish in Dayton. She also served in Missouri, Montana and Kentucky and ministered as librarian for 24 years at Scecina High School in Indianapolis and Oldenburg Academy before retiring in 1955.
She is survived by her sister, Sue Steritz, and brother, Franciscan Father Tom Speier of Cincinnati.
Interment was in the convent cemetery.
