Ohio Rep. Michelle G. Schneider fields questions during a recent visit to St. Gertrude School in Madeira. While touring the school’s new facilities and seeing technological advancements at the school, Schneider also took the opportunity to talk about Ohio government with students of Jerry Hilton’s social studies class. Schneider also joined students for lunch.

State representative gets tour of St. Gertrude School

ST. ANDREW DEANERY — On May 4, Ohio Rep. Michelle G. Schneider visited St. Gertrude School in Madeira. Her visit included an assembly with the student body, a tour of the new school facility which opened in August 2006, and lunch with school teachers and administrators.

During the convocation, Jerry Hilton’s junior-high social studies students asked Schneider questions about politics and state government.

"A visit by a sitting representative is a tremendous opportunity for our students, because it bridges the gap between theoretical discussions on politics and Representative Schneider’s real-world experiences," Hilton said.

Several new programs, including the Virtue Education Program and the Pre-K program (new for 2007-08 school year) were also included in the tour.

Purcell Marian graduate, veterinarian, gives special class

ST. FRANCIS DE SALES DEANERY — On May 2, Dr. Paul Brinker, a veterinarian and Purcell graduate from the class of 1967, returned to Purcell Marian to help with the dissection of fetal pigs. These fetal pigs were taken at the time of slaughter and not bred for the purpose of study.

Brinker, who has a practice in Delhi, comes back each year to lend his expertise to Marita Rosenbauer’s anatomy and physiology class in their study of comparative anatomy.
