Local deacons attend national conference

Fourteen members of the permanent diaconate in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati recently participated in a conference held on board the Norwegian Cruise Line’s "Pride of America," as it toured the Hawaiian Islands. Bishops Larry Silva and John Cummins also attended, providing daily Mass for participants. Evening prayer, presentations and learning sessions were part of the experience.

Deacons and their spouses from throughout the United States and Canada took part.

Adult Spirituality Institute announces winter courses

The popular Adult Spirituality Institute will continue its eighth year of study this winter offering several short-term, non-credit courses in conjunction with the Athenaeum of Ohio.

The instructors for this term include Father Timothy Schehr, Gillian T.W. Ahlgren and Father Earl Fernandes. "Francis and Clare: the Legacy," by Ahlgren, will be the first session of the winter season, held on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, from Jan. 19 to Feb. 9. "Serving the Lord," by Father Schehr, and "The Practical Morality of the Sermon on the Mount," by Father Fernandes, will follow.

All sessions are held at the Athenaeum. Fees are nominal. For more information, call 513-231-2223, ext. 143.

CATHEDRAL DEANERY

CISE drawing to be held Dec. 6

The CISE (Catholic Inner-City Schools Education) Fund will hold its annual "Friends of CISE" raffle drawing on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Synod Hall at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. The raffle benefits the eight urban CISE schools, and the prizes this year include cash awards of $10,000, $2,500, $1,000 and $500. There are also 10 baskets valued at $250 each. Tickets are $100. CATHEDRAL DEANERY

Welcome Mass for Archbishop Schnurr Dec. 7

Coadjutor Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr will be formally welcomed to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in a special Mass Sunday, Dec. 7, 2:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains.

The Mass is by invitation only, but each parish in the archdiocese has received two tickets for the Mass.

A public reception will follow the Mass at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel.

Archbishop Schnurr assumes his new duties Dec. 1. He will reside at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary while working at the offices of the archdiocese in downtown Cincinnati.
