Veteran educator Dr. Laura Cali Meibers, an assistant superintendent of Catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, has been appointed deputy superintendent. She succeeds Anne Battes, who resigned in July to become full-time president of the Catholic Education Collaborative in Dayton.

"In her brief time with us as assistant superintendent, I was very impressed with her dedication, openness and desire to serve our schools in the Archdiocese," said Marianist Brother Joe Kamis, superintendent of Catholic schools. "I look forward to working with her in her new position as she moves to the Dayton office and continues to work for the schools of the archdiocese."

Our Mother Of Sorrows parish to close

Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk, after consulting with the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, has approved the closure of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in Roselawn because of changing demographics.

The territory of the parish will be assigned to another parish or parishes.

The archbishop has asked that the closure take place no later than Sunday, June 28, 2009. A closing Mass has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on that day.

Our Mother of Sorrows Parish was created in 1941. The present church, at 7243 Eastlawn Dr., was completed in September 1967. The number of participants at the one Sunday Mass in the parish last October averaged 166, down from 241 in 2003.

Parishioners were consulted regarding several options, and the majority decided to close the parish rather than merge with another.
