In-service training available for lay ecclesial ministers

ARCHDIOCESE — Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk, who served as a consultant on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ document: Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord: A Resource for Guiding the Development of Lay Ecclesial Ministry, will lead an archdiocesan in-service this fall.

The sessions will provide insights into the history and content of Co-Workers and present guidelines for lay ecclesial ministry formation in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

The in-service will include a definition of the term "lay ecclesial minister," the importance of formation standards, the pastor’s role in the formation of lay ecclesial ministers, how and when someone is authorized to serve as a lay ecclesial minister, and minimum standards for lay ecclesial ministry formation in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Who should attend?

This in-service is designed for pastors, deacons, lay ecclesial ministers, parish staff members, university faculty, ministry students and others interested in learning more about lay ecclesial ministry formation. It will be held three times — in New Bremen, Cincinnati and Kettering. The two-and-a-half hour in-service is free but requires prior reservation.

Session dates are:

Oct. 1, Holy Redeemer Church, New Bremen (1:30 p.m. doors open; program at 2 p.m.);

Oct. 17, The Athenaeum of Ohio, Cincinnati (9 a.m. doors open; program at 9:30 a.m.);

Oct 18, Ascension Church, Kettering (1:30 p.m. doors open; program at 2 p.m.)

For reservations, please call Becky Heileman at 513-421-3131 or 800-686-2724; or by e-mail at rheileman@catholiccincinnati.org.
