Sister Mary Louis Murer

A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister Mary Louis Murer, 88, was held on Sept. 9 at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Ind. She died on Sept. 4 at St. Clare Hall, the congregation’s health care facility.

Sister Mary Louis, a native of St. Louis, Mo., entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1939 and professed her final vows in 1945. Sister Mary Louis spent 56 years as an elementary school teacher and principal at Our Lady of Mercy and St. Anthony Schools, both in Dayton. She also ministered to students at schools in Indiana and Missouri.

She is survived by her sister, Henrietta Kemper of St. Louis, Mo. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery.

Deacon Joseph Schultheis

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 3 for Deacon Joseph R. Schultheis, 83, who served at Our Lady of Victory Church in Delhi. He died on Aug. 30.

Deacon Schultheis served at Our Lady of Victory for 32 years and was a chaplain at Jewish Hospital. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1976 by Archbishop Joseph L. Bernardin at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and four children, Michael, Theresa, Gloria and Barb.
