Sister Naomi Frey

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 30 for Franciscan Sister Naomi (Thomas Ann) Frey, 77, at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Ind. She died Aug. 28 at St. Clare Hall at the convent.

A native of Cincinnati, she professed her final vows in 1954. She was an elementary and secondary teacher at schools in Indiana, Illinois and Montana. In 1961, she went to Papua New Guinea where she ministered for the next 34 years as a teacher. She returned to the United States in 1995 and, in 1997, retired to the motherhouse.

She is survived by her sisters, Rita Owens of Cleves and Patricia Scott of Dearborn, Mich.; and three brothers, Donald, Paul of Indianapolis, Ind., and Columban Brother Thomas Frey of Austin, Texas.

Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.
