Deacon Werner R. Bensman

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 15 for Deacon Werner R. Bensman, 86, at St. Michael Church in Ft. Loramie. A resident of Anna, he died Sept. 12 at his daughter’s home in Sidney following a brief illness.

He was ordained to the diaconate by Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk in 1991 and served at St. Patrick Church in St. Patrick, Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Newport and St. Michael Church in Ft. Loramie. A native of St. Patrick, he was a retired farmer and real estate agent for Warner Realty.

He was a member of St. Michael Church in Ft. Loramie, the Knights of Columbus, the National Farmers Organization, the Shelby County Farm Bureau, and a former member and past president of Pioneer Electric.

His wife, Eulita, died in 2005.

He is survived by four sons: Gary of Minster, Denny of Dayton, Gregory of Cincinnati, and Daniel of Ft. Myers Fla; and four daughters: Kathleen Holiday of Crystal Lake, IL, Susan Cleppe of Arlington, Wa., Deborah Colfer of Greenbank, Wa., and Brenda Locker of Sidney.

A sister, Dorothy Bergman of McCartyville, and a brother, Jerome Siegrist of Sidney, also survive him.

Burial was at St. Patrick Cemetery.
