Youth In Conversation With God: Empowering Teens to Pray.
Effective and grace-full prayer and worship with youth can awaken and nurture a deeper spirituality and prepare them for "full, conscious and active" participation in the sacramental life of the faith community. Join us January 25-26 (7pm Friday to 5pm Saturday) for an overnight seminar that provides sound principles of prayer, rooted in the Catholic tradition, equipping adults with creative approaches that engage young people in a variety of personal prayer forms and corporate worship.  For more information and to register, check out our website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin and click on the Youth In Conversation With God  link in the center of the page.

Will Our Children Have Faith? You are probably already aware of the National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR), a groundbreaking report on the state of teenage faith and spirituality in the U.S.  Now you can invite someone from our professional OYYAM staff to your parish or school to give a dynamic presentation about the NSYR and discuss its implications for parents and parish ministry. The presentation can be tailored for various groups:  parents, parish staffs, high school faculties, deanery or pastoral region meetings, etc., and has been especially effective in parent meetings accompanying sacramental preparation.  Call your local OYYAM and we would be happy to arrange a presentation for you.   (Cincinnati: 513-421-3131 x335 or Dayton: 937-223-1001.)

Can't make it to Sydney, Australia for World Youth Day 2008?
For those who would like to join in the celebration, for significantly less time and money, the dioceses of Ohio and Michigan are planning a terrific event!  On the very same weekend as our friends who have journeyed to Australia, July 19-20, 2008, we will host an event in Sidney, OH on the grounds of Lehman High School. The event is complete with the experience of sleeping outside under the stars, great music by Who Do You Say I Am ,  great speakers (including Mike Patin) and terrific prayer times.   We will continue to keep you posted with more information as the details progress on our website (www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/ and click on the center link), but mark your calendars now to join youth from all of Ohio and Michigan at this special event!

CRS Food Fast. Looking for a great Lenten (or any time!) activity you can do with your teens that is educational, spiritual, interactive, fun, doesn't cost much money, and raises money for the poor?  Try a 24-Hour Food Fast. The 2007-2008 Coordinator's Manual is filled with activities and prayers that look at the impact of fair trade and water/sanitation issues on world hunger and poverty. The Cd-ROM includes presentations, reflections and additional customizable activities. Visit www.foodfast.org to order your FREE materials.

You have probably heard bout the Vatican's new "10 Commandments for Drivers", issued last June.
You can also download the actual 36-page document, "Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road" at  www.cdeducation.org/oym/connections/roadguidelines.pdf. Since it contains information on the moral aspects of driving as well as exploring the images of the "road" in Sacred Scripture and even teaching on the Church's commitment to social justice for others found on the "street", it can be an excellent resource for use with your teens. We also encourage you to visit a website by the City of Kent, Washington. This site uses the Vatican's commandments, adding a short comment after each with a link to statistics or other relevant information. Check it out at www.ci.kent.wa.us/police/traffic/TenCommandmentsforDrivers.asp

Help Elder High School Bring Jason Evert to Cincinnati:
After a four year hiatus, Elder High School is interested in hosting renowned chastity speaker Jason Evert from Catholic Answers and EWTN.  He will not travel from California, however, unless he has three events scheduled in the same area. His cost is $1150 per speaking engagement plus travel expenses (flight, hotel, per diem). If you are interested in his wife (Chrystalina) speaking as well they are $1800 per engagement. They are both excellent speakers and can speak to boys or girls or both. The travel expenses could be shared between three or more schools or parishes.  If you are interested in collaborating with Elder to bring Jason Evert to our area, please contact Mike Trimpe at trimpegolf@hotmail.com.  You may find more information about Jason Evert at this websites:
www.catholic.com/seminars/evert.asp , www.pureloveclub.com/purelove/index.php?id=46 , and

You cannot pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it only takes a few moments of your time
Do this with your youth and help make someone's time away from home a little less lonely this Christmas season.

NCYC 2007 is over, but the music lives on!  Whether you participated in this incredible, spirit-filled conference or just wish you did, you can still get a copy of the music. The theme song, Discover the Way, written by Nick Cardilino (a local campus ministry leader at the University of Dayton), is in the top 10 of Christian Rock songs on soundclick.com (and you can go to that site to vote for his music and move it further up the charts). You can purchase his new CD, Discover the Way (featuring both the rock and the ballad versions of Discover the Way) on his website at www.nickcardilino.com.   Not sure if you like the song? Check out some of the performances on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPSz6fq0i2Y, www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGG5ZiC-HZ4 , and www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnkeLhig5G4.

The movie Bella comes to Cincinnati and Dayton Theaters. The movie Bella is now showing in theatres throughout the area, including the Regal (Beavercreek), Springdale 18 (Cincinnati) and Newport on the Levee (Kentucky).  Bella is the movie that has taken the world by surprise with its beauty and positive endorsement of Life. It is a true love story that shows how one day in New York City changed three people's lives forever--surprise winner of the Toronto Film Festival; shown at the White House; taking the public by storm. The movie stars Eduardo Verastegui, an international star in Latin America who gave up this fame to focus on making movies that advance values and ethics. The actors and producers have formed Metanoia production company to impact the culture. "Metanoia" means to change one's mind, to repent, a transformative change of heart, especially a spiritual conversion.  For more information on times and additional local theaters, check the Bella movie web site at www.bellathemovie.com.
