Archdiocesan Statement on Healthcare: Reforming HealthCare, Protecting Life  When it comes to public policies, we Catholics frequently bring a moral position that can best be described as "both/and" in its approach, rather than "either/or"  (said by Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk).  Click on the above link to read the full document and help inform your understanding of the health care issues affecting our nation today.

IMPORTANT NCYC UPDATES!
Check out the Archdiocese of Cincinnati NCYC page for new information on the November 18 Wednesday evening send-off/blessing event for families, over-the-counter permission slip forms, and important information on protecting our kids from possible spread of the H1N1 virus as we travel to Kansas City to experience the 2009 National Catholic Youth Conference.
IF YOU ARE REGISTERED FOR NCYC: Join the MyCatholicVoice Virtual Pilgrimage.
As a sacramental religion, Catholicism is meant to bring people together in community, for Christ is found in and through community.  Today, community is online as well as offline, and the church is challenged to find new ways to be community and a sacramental presence.  As the official online resource for NCYC 2009, the MyCatholicVoice Virtual Pilgrimage enables users to connect, explore and share community online, extending the energy and spirit of NCYC 2009 beyond the physical event. The Virtual Pilgrimage provides multimedia content and interactive ways which enable youth, ministers, and parents to "Prepare, Deepen and Sustain" their NCYC 2009 experience. Join the Virtual Pilgrimage today (www.myCatholicvoice.com/ncyc).

Schedule a powerful  "Will Our Kids Have Faith?" presentation at your parish!
Parents, Catholic schools and parishes have every reason to worry that our young people are drifting away from the Church.  In a major national study it was discovered that, despite all the wonderful programs, initiatives and guidance that parishes and schools provide, Catholic teenagers consistently scored lower on most measures of religiosity — 5 to 25 percentage points lower than their conservative, mainline, and black Protestant peers.
This eye-opening presentation will
  • Explore the startling findings of the National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR)
  • Redirect our efforts towards what will really make a difference in the faith of teens
  • Offer practical steps to respond to the challenges we face

Presentations can be geared for any audience (i.e., parents or a parish staff). This may be a particularly great time to schedule a presentation for parents in conjunction with Sacramental preparation. For more information, check out the website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/

Oct. 25 World Youth Day Celebration: In the United States this year’s National Celebration of World Youth Day is on Oct. 25. In preparing for World Youth Day, parishes and schools should plan to highlight the gifts, needs, and hopes of young people. The theme is: “We have set our hope on the living God” (1 Tim 4:10). View the Message of the Holy Father Benedict XVI to the Young People of the World on the Occasion of the Twenty-Fourth World Youth Day 2009, and begin planning your celebration now by visiting the following NFCYM resource page: www.nfcym.org/resources/WYD_US.htm

pray-as-you-go.org Pray-as-you-go is a free daily prayer session designed for use on your portable MP3 players, to help you pray while traveling to and from work, study, etc. It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.  Lasting between 10 and 13 minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection. The aim is to help you to
  • become more aware of God's presence in your life

  • listen to and reflect on God's word
  • grow in your relationship with God

It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Although the content is different every day, it keeps the same basic format. Visit pray-as-you-go.org for more information and to get started today!

Need an easier way to communicate with your teens or staff? Can't decide whether to send an e-mail, text message or Facebook posting?  Check out www.Flocknote.com,  a free, new Catholic website that could be perfect for your Catholic parish. Here's a brief description of how the site works: Catholic group leaders  simply create "feeds" for every group that they lead. They can then post notes and documents on this feed to share with their members.  Then, group members subscribe to the feeds and choose how they want to receive their notes: by email, text message, Facebook , or on the website itself. You can even attach documents that group members can download - like newsletters, event flyers, permission slips, etc.  And the best part? It's 100% free - and 100% Catholic.  So check out the website and give it a try!

Twenty-Third Publications is now partnering with PastoralPlanning.com to provide resources for everyone working in Catholic Parish ministry. They have resources specifically for parish priests, catechetical leaders, youth ministers, RCIA teams, pastoral care staff, stewardship, Catholic Schools ministry, justice-making, sacramental preparation, personal spirituality help and many more areas.  Go to pastoralplanning.com  and click on the ministry heading that interests you. They also provide a new service where they ship you via e-mail a monthly set of Prayer Guides for the Question of the Week. You get one Prayer Guide for each week, with the readings, the Question, the format for prayer, and the process for breaking open the Word. Very handy and inexpensive. Find more information on that service at store.pastoralplanning.com/quofwerere.html.
