Foundations of Leadership: A Course for Ministry Professionals: This college level course (may optionally be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit) is a must for those who bear responsibility for implementing comprehensive youth ministry as a community's part-time or full-time youth ministry professional.  Now in its seventh year, this course is offered to help youth ministry leaders learn  about the present Millennial generation, strategies for implementing Renewing the Vision, and stay abreast of new developments.  Among other resources, we will be discussing implications of one of the most compelling youth ministry books out today, Youth Ministry 3.0 by Mark Oestricher, and the longitudinal research from the National Study of Youth and Religion.  Classes are Thursdays, 9:30am-12:30pm from August 26-December 16.  For more information and to register, check out our website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/training/foundations1.htm

Introduction to Catechetical Ministry with Adolescents: Forming Young Disciples in the Catholic Faith.  Do you need help developing catechetical programming for your youth ministry program that is engaging, fun and effective? Do you need to develop a sense of how to teach young people to embrace Catholicism as a way of life? Join us for this in-depth mini-course of four 2 1/2 hour sessions on 4 consecutive Tuesdays, Sep. 21, 28, Oct. 5 and 12 at St. John Parish in Tipp City. Cost is only $10 per session ($40 for the series). For more information and to register, go to our website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin and click on the ICMA link in center of the page.

Cast Your Nets 2010:  The OYYAM, Vocations Office and regional youth ministry associations are collaborating on an  exciting series of youth events called Cast Your Nets.  It is an evening of Sunday Eucharist, praise and worship,  a keynote presentation, snacks and more, with priests available for the sacrament of reconciliation. All events are Sundays, 5-9:00 PM. The next event will take place at St. Luke Parish in Beavercreek on Oct. 24.  Take advantage of this opportunity to gather your youth with others in the archdiocese to be invigorated in their faith and become new disciples of Christ. The events are free, so just go to our website for more information: www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/CYN.  Also, receive more current updates by becoming a fan on Facebook. Find the link on the CYN homepage.

Schedule a powerful  "Will Our Kids Have Faith?" presentation at your parish!
Parents, Catholic schools and parishes have every reason to worry that our young people are drifting away from the Church.  In a major national study it was discovered that, despite all the wonderful programs, initiatives and guidance that parishes and schools provide, Catholic teenagers consistently scored lower on most measures of religiosity — 5 to 25 percentage points lower than their conservative, mainline, and black Protestant peers. This eye-opening presentation will:
* Explore the startling findings of the National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR)
* Redirect our efforts towards what will really make a difference in the faith of teens
* Offer practical steps to respond to the challenges we face

Presentations can be geared for any audience (i.e., parents or a parish staff). This may be a particularly great time to schedule a presentation for parents in conjunction with Sacramental preparation. For more information, check out the website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/

Enroll your teens in a Theology of the Body class: Young Catholics are surrounded by influences that challenge their faith and morals every day. These challenges call for more than a "do this, don't do that" approach to catechesis. Using a great mix of stories, real-life examples, activities, prayers and references to the culture that teens understand, Theology of the Body for Teens answers the questions teens have about their own bodies, issues on sexual morality, and how they were uniquely created for greatness. Our fall session meets on Wednesday evenings Sep. 15-Nov. 17 from 7-9PM.  For pricing and more information (and to have a look at their adult offerings as well), check out their upcoming schedule at www.ruahwoods.org.
Marching With the Saints: The time is now to prepare for the 2010 NCCYM in New Orleans. The next National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry, Marching with the Saints, will be held December 9-12, 2010.  The NCCYM is the largest adult conference for Catholic Youth Ministers in the country. It is sponsored biennially on even numbered years by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry in order to help form and transform adults ministering to youth in the Catholic church. Thousands of youth and campus ministers, religious education leaders, performers and artists and volunteers from every level come together for four days of inspiring keynotes, challenging workshops, dynamic prayer and worship, helpful networking, extensive resources, and good-hearted entertainment.  For more information and to register, check out the website at: nccym.nfcym.org/

The Jesuit Spiritual Center will offer a retreat September 17-19 focusing on prayer. This retreat will offer an opportunity to slow down and to focus on the actual possibility of developing a rich prayer life in the midst of the routine chaos of our lives which can often feel fragmented, out of balance, or out of control. Special attention will be given to the role of gratitude in developing a healthy, balanced life with God, with self, and with others. The retreat, led by Fr. John Ferone, SJ, will be open to both men and women. For more information, or to register, call (513) 248-3500, ext. 10, or visit www.jesuitspiritualcenter.com.

On the website you can find a host of resources such as: activity ideas, conversation starters, e-cards, a newsletter, and access to the MVParents store. Check out the site at www.mvparents.com
Need an easier way to communicate with your teens or staff? Can't decide whether to send an e-mail, text message or Facebook posting?  Check out www.Flocknote.com,  a free, new Catholic website that could be perfect for your Catholic parish. Here's a brief description of how the site works: Catholic group leaders  simply create "feeds" for every group that they lead. They can then post notes and documents on this feed to share with their members.  Then, group members subscribe to the feeds and choose how they want to receive their notes: by email, text message, Facebook , or on the website itself. You can even attach documents that group members can download - like newsletters, event flyers, permission slips, etc.  And the best part? It's 100% free - and 100% Catholic.  So check out the website and give it a try!

If you know anyone who is no longer receiving this youth ministry e-zine but would like to, invite them to fill one out too. Return as often as you like, whenever anything changes.
