A Music Ministry Experience for Young People in Grades 8-12

INFO FOR MUSIC MINISTERS AND YOUTH MINISTERS

 WHAT IS LAUDATE?

Now in its sixth year, Laudate is a 4-day experience held each year in June at the Bergamo Retreat Center in Dayton. Students spend time making music and improving their vocal and instrumental skills; they spend time in prayer several times a day; they learn about the liturgy through interactive discussions; and they form community through social activities. It’s a very full four days.

The teachers and team members are dedicated and talented music ministers and youth ministers from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, as well as other highly qualified musicians (our choral director last year was the conductor of the University of Dayton Chorale). The music used in liturgy is truly diverse, encompassing chant, gospel, traditional hymnody, classical and contemporary music for the church.

 WILL MY KIDS LIKE IT?

Your kids will LOVE Laudate. Students tell us that what they appreciate most is being among other people their age who are involved or want to be involved in liturgical music.  Through follow-up conversations with students, we know that they remember and have integrated much of the liturgical formation, and that they gain confidence in their musical skills and have a desire to share them with their parish. In turn, your parishioners both young and old and your other parish musicians will be inspired by the involvement of talented teens who are enthusiastic about sharing their talents AND their faith.

GIVE YOUR KIDS THE INSIDE SCOOP!

As you know, the new Roman Missal is coming, changing how we all pray and sing the mass. Well, that is our topic for this year! This is the biggest stuff to come out since Vatican II, so give your young people the edge with all the latest information on the changes and how they will affect your choir, and have them learn it all in the fun atmosphere that has always been Laudate. Don't let them miss out. An opportunity like this won't come around for another 40 years!

 IT'S TOO MUCH MONEY!

LAUDATE doesn't make any money. We barely pay a small stipend to all the many teachers and instructors who make themselves available to your kids that weekend for instruction on vocals and so many different instruments. But if the registration fee is a burden for your parents or parish, don't let finances stop you. We have funds available for a number of scholarships! Deadline is May 10, so go to our Registration Info page and find out how to apply!

THE DEADLINE IS COMING! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Early bird registration deadline is May 7th. That's very close! After that, it will cost an extra $25 per person to register, if there is room.  Don't pay more than you have to, and you certainly don't want to let your kids miss out all together! So get on the phone, call your musically inclined kids, download the forms from our Registration Info page, and get your young people signed up for Laudate 2010. It will be the best thing they do all summer!
