Important:  These are certificate programs, not certification. A certificate of completion from a certificate program acknowledges successful completion of an educational program. By contrast,  certification is an official credential that recognizes demonstrated competence relative to approved standards, and requires a special application and assessment process. 

Certificate Program for Volunteer Youth Ministry Leaders
Course Descriptions


Basic Level I Courses:

·         Introduction to Catholic Youth Ministry (2˝ hrs.):  Ministry to adolescents has taken on many forms in the last 75 years – CYO, Teen Club, Youth Group. These models are no longer sufficient for youth of the new millennium. In this workshop we will explore the vision that the U.S. Bishops provided in 1997 to serve young people effectively in this ever changing world. 

·         Youth Ministry Planning Basics (2˝ hrs.):  This workshop is designed to give you lots of time-saving tips to better plan your calendar and programs and delegate the work.

·         Legal & Liability Concerns in Youth Ministry (2˝ hrs.):  This seminar will address the critical legal and liability issues facing youth ministry leaders, including: Child Protection Decree, medical and permission/release forms, transportation, alcohol and tobacco use, copyright laws, supervision, and more.


 

Basic Level II Courses:

·         Be the Word—10 Powerful Ways to Share Christ with Youth (2˝ hrs.): Youth Ministry leaders need to know how to build genuine, caring, honest, and trusting relationships with young people in order to journey with them in the faith. This workshop will explore the attitudes, approaches and practical skills necessary to develop relational ministry with young people. B2

·         Pray the Word—Engaging Youth in Prayer (2˝ hrs.):  Prayer nurtures in young people a deepening awareness of God already present in their lives and calls them to live in harmony with God’s will. This workshop will provide basic tools, knowledge and skills necessary to build effective prayer experiences for youth. B2

·         Live the Word—Engaging Youth in Service (2˝ hrs.): Today’s young people have been called the most service-oriented generation in decades. This workshop will cover all the basics of planning a service project—getting youth excited about service, how to choose an appropriate project, permission forms and other legal and liability issues, and debriefing the experience. Are There Fees?

Basic Levels I & II workshops range from $10-$20 per session. Because other trainings can be designed in a variety of formats, a fee will be assessed for each based on the type and duration of the program, and for materials.
